Hidden beneath the rugged landscapes of southern Albania, a groundbreaking scientific discovery has emerged, unveiling one of nature’s most astonishing secrets. A team of Czech scientists has identified the largest underground thermal lake in the world, buried deep within the Vromoner region, near the Greek border. Its waters are rich in hydrogen sulfide, which, upon exposure to air, oxidizes and forms sulfuric acid. This acid gradually dissolves the surrounding limestone, transforming it into soft gypsum—a rare natural phenomenon responsible for shaping the underground caverns.
