Castle Park in Berat: A Family Base for Experiencing Albania More Slowly

Castle Park is only a few minutes from the centre of Berat, but it feels like a different rhythm.
 

You leave the city, go a little higher, the trees begin to appear, the air changes, and Berat starts to look different from above. It is not far away, but it is enough to feel the journey slow down.

Surrounded by nature, local food, and views of the landscape around the city, Castle Park works as a calm base for entering Albania with more time and attention.

Family Adventure in Berat: Two Days Between Castle Park and Osumi Canyon

When a family travels through Albania, the question is not only what activity to do. The real question is often more practical: how to organise something beautiful, safe, and simple without having to solve every detail separately.

Berat works very well for that.

The city has history, calm streets, local food, and a scale that makes it easy to move with children. For a family, that matters. A trip is not only about adding one more place to the map. It is about finding a base where everyone can enjoy Albania with a little more clarity.

Whew! What a weekend! From rafting to off-roading, these past two days have been non-stop action, and I couldn’t be happier to be sharing new experiences with some of my favorite Peace Corps volunteers!

A couple months ago, my friend Jenn invited the A20 volunteers to her site for a rafting trip. Skrapar’s Osumi Canyon is said to be the best rafting location in the entire country, and though the price was a little steep, I wanted to give the experience a try.
