A Road of Culture, Nature & Adventure: Berat Meets Gjirokastra
The long-awaited Berat–Ballaban road, a 60 km strategic axis, is taking shape and promises to transform the way travelers explore southern Albania.
This new connection will directly link two UNESCO World Heritage Sites — the historic cities of Berat and Gjirokastra — while also opening a gateway to Përmet and the wild beauty of the Vjosa River, Europe’s last free-flowing river.
Progress on the Road
-
The first layer of asphalt has been laid from Ballaban to Zhitom.
-
On the Zhitom–Drobonik segment, work is underway on manhole installation and base preparation for asphalting.
Once completed, this route will not only reduce travel time but also strengthen cultural and adventure tourism in Albania’s south.
