We are already in winter and Albania is very suitable for winter tourism or "White Tourism" as it is called. White tourism takes place in the mountains and Albania is very rich in them.
Mountain tourism seems to have become one of the most popular trends among tourists. Now the desire to spend holidays does not remain only in the summer season. Winter is an equally compelling opportunity to have a nice and different time through travel or winter sports, beautiful landscapes and nature. In our nature there are some places that are preferred for winter holidays. The most perfect destinations to try such an adventure, the prices and alternatives they offer, the infrastructural possibilities that are somewhat affordable in a normal way are:
1- Tomorri is the most special mountain in Albania and the most enigmatic. It is called the throne of the gods for its height, ferocity, beauty and enigma. Pelasgian Dodona or "Bad Winter" Dodona reigned there. There are areas covered with eternal snow as well as many water sources, some even strange ones like that of Kuchedra. Word of mouth says that it is commanded by a kuchedra that releases and cuts the water when it wants. And indeed the water in this source flows intermittently. You can be drinking water in it and suddenly it stops. Geologists explain it as a geological phenomenon that occurs in the tectonic layers of the basement, but there is also a legend that says that that mountain stands on top of something, so something is hidden under it. In the winter season, everything turns white and there is no shortage of visitors. The tourist, traveling towards it, can use the canyons of the Osum River, the caves of its course, can get to know old cultural monuments such as the bridge, the church, but can also practice the sport of skiing or winter hunting.
2-Voskopoja, which is located very close to the city of Korça, on a plateau 1160 m above sea level. The characteristic of the country is clean air and fresh and curative water. Skiing can be practiced during the winter. The calm and white nature is the main reason that attracts hundreds of Albanians to spend their winter holidays. For several years in a row, the southeastern region continues to remain the preference of many Albanian families who choose the cold and adventures in the snow to spend holidays different from the usual ones, up to the traditional ones. There are several high-quality hotels in Voskopoja. On the southeastern edge, there are many different adventures, from skiing to hiking in the snow-capped mountains. Traditional cuisine with organic food is another reason that encourages tourists to take the road to Voskopoja again. During the winter, the most favorite local dishes remain the traditional ones such as roasted meat, cabbage and pickles. The forests, the right place for hunting enthusiasts, are one of the reasons that attract local and foreign tourists.
3-Razma, is another very favorite destination. The village of Razma, about 40 km north of Shkodra, is the ideal place to practice mountaineering and skiing. The village offers accommodation options in hotels and guesthouses. It has a typical mountain climate, very clean air with curative values. Alpine pastures, beech and pine forests are characteristic of the area. The area of Razma offers opportunities for the development of several types of tourism, the most frequent being that of skiing in the glacial moraines, especially in the Black field and in the sports field of the Razma camp.
4-Valbona Valley, near the town of Bajram Curri, is a very visited destination. It lies between high and rugged peaks covered with a fantastic color of colors in every season, thus giving the image of a valley full of labyrinths and surprises, and is considered the miracle of the Albanian Alps. Taking a winter trip to the Valbona Valley is a spiritual wonder in terms of the emotions that its landscapes offer. In the evenings of the guesthouse, you will have the legends of the area cross-legged next to the owner of the house. They are beautiful and impressive.
Scientific, touristic and curative values are combined with a bio-diversity of national and international importance. Those who are passionate about mountain tourism can make a wonderful trip this season to the Valbona Valley National Park that will fascinate you with its natural wealth. It is already very visited not only by foreigners, but also by many Albanians, eager for adventure and who want to explore the mountain beauty.
5-Thethi National Park is located in the Albanian Alps, near Bjeshke te Namuna, 70 km from Shkodra. A truly interesting natural monument is the Grunas waterfall. Its waters descend from a height of 30 meters, in the heart of the Albanian Alps. Thethi has the view of a pond 800 meters above sea level. It is located among a crown of rugged peaks, such as Radohima, Maja e Arapi, Maja e Ali, which stand out for their rare beauty in the entire Alps. Thethi stands out for the contrasts of relief, waterfalls, dense vegetation, meadows and especially colors. The water sources of Okoli are quite attractive. Here is also the "tower of blood", this epic element of Albanian life, where during the period of blood feuds, blood was sheltered. Today, the object of cultural heritage is very visited by tourists. In Theth there are 10 apartments adapted for tourism, with rooms with normal conditions, where 6 are type of inns, while four are ordinary apartments, typical for the area and adapted for tourism. The traditional cuisine of Theth consists of "ferlik" (roasted meat), cooking trout from the Theth stream, as well as dairy by-products (various cheeses, cottage cheese, fresh yogurt, etc.). Numerous outdoor activities can be organized in Theth, such as: mountain climbing, speleology, kayaking in the stream of Theth, mountain sports fishing, winter sports on the natural slopes with snow, mountain biking, skiing, etc.
It is really a beautiful mountain nature with myths and rare beauty, but the road infrastructure to Theth is very depreciated. The central and local government should do more for this gem of Albanian nature, to bring it closer to the visitor.
6- Dajti is another destination for white tourism. It is very close to Tirana and quite visitable in the winter season. There is a comfortable alternative to reach Dajt, that is by cable car. The road alternative, which is also the most beautiful, where the journey alternates with the beautiful views that nature brings you, remains difficult due to the excessively damped road.
Boga is located between the mountains of Rugova. The village of Boga is one of the most beautiful places in Kosovo to enjoy the snow. Boga gives you a more friendly feel and almost all the facilities of this center are located in a common place. It also offers a stretch close to the cable cars, which are located near beautiful wooden houses, to spend a pleasant weekend. In the village there is a ski track with modern parameters, where even beginners in this type of sport can have fun. A good job has been done here to absorb winter tourism through communication and accommodation routes.
7-Dardha is a deep village in the area of Korça, which on a normal day has no more than 40 inhabitants, but on holidays and seasonal holidays the village is filled with visitors. Dardha is a mountain village between mountains and forests, a rare natural beauty, at an altitude of 1,344 m. Dardha offers a very healthy climate and clean air. Winter sports, especially skiing, attract tourists who are passionate about them. There is a ski slope that is still in the amateur stage and has not been invested in to make it attractive for ski tourists. Even the road to this village leaves much to be desired. The name Pardë comes from a legend, according to which, it is said that those who escaped from the first burning of Voskopoja, stood in a field around a pear tree and called it the field under the pear. Recently, hotels offering tourist services have been added and the prices have been reasonable. 7
8-Brezovica is a picturesque mountain village located on the famous slopes of Brezovica, a resort and ski slope at 2,500 meters above sea level. The tourist village is positioned and exposed to a very special landscape. The impressive mountains of Sharr and the river which surrounds the entire space. Brezovica offers a good ski slope for a professional sport. No doubt it will become a major destination in the future, but even today it is a great place to have adventures that are cheap and fun. Vacationers will find ten cable cars, which are connected by 16 kilometers of tracks with an average length of 3,000 meters. The tracks are wide and different in structure and you can have fun at a reasonable price. In Brezovica there are bars, restaurants and hotels for accommodation.
9- Llogaraja is located south-east of Vlora, on the border between the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea. The park goes from an altitude of 470 m to an altitude of 2018 m. Near Llogara Neck there are many trees and interesting crown shapes as a result of tides and wind. A stunning example is the "Flag Pine", a rare natural monument with scientific and touristic values. This park offers an attractive weather and landscape and characteristic fields. Its vegetation consists mainly of conifers such as black pine. Llogara Park is of great importance as a tourist destination and serves as a transit bridge for both types of tourism, coastal and mountain. It has great potential for the development of eco-tourism, air sports, excursions and travel. This is a climatic country, because here both climates are mixed, mountain and cool sea. For sports fans, this park offers accommodation in luxury hotels.
