The Cave of Pëllumbas is a karst cave in central Albania, located close to the village of Pëllumbas in Tirana County. It lies about 500 m above the Adriatic, on the slopes of Dajti, a mountain chain that rises to an elevation of 1,613 m. The cave is one of among six karstic caves that exist in Europe.
Overview
The cave has a length of 360 m with a width which can vary between 10–15 m (33–49 ft) and a vertical range of 45 m. Despite its small size it is regarded as one of the country's most beautiful caves and attracts numerous visitors.
The cave is situated within the boundaries of Dajti National Park and has been recognised as a natural monument of national and international importance by the Ministry of Environment.
The importance of the complex is due to the remains of ancient human culture which belongs to the Paleolithic.
The cave was inhabited by the extinct cave bear, which lived between 10,000 and 400,000 years ago.

Attention
Our trips in Albania do not provide high level of difficulty, but every visitor should consider:
- Be healthy and have consulted the doctor during the year.
- In absolute terms, the person should not have diseases and complications following:
- Cardiac disease of any kind
- Hypertension
- Flake out or lose of feeling of any kind
- Problems of the spine and muscular system that reduce the physical possibility of safety.
- Problems with breathing apparatus
- Nerve Problems
- Problems with eyes (severe myopia, retinal detachment, glaucoma)
- Be under the influence of pharmaceutical drugs, drugs, alcohol.
! Kindly keep all your clothes and personal belongings in a backpack, which can be easily transported on minivan.
Things You Should Bring on the Hike
- Backpack.
- Appropriate footwear. Hiking shoes;
- Sun cream, sun glasses and an hat;
- Camera;
- BONUS: Trash Bag. This 7th piece of gear is essential to making sure that the trails you love stay beautiful for generations to come. A zip lock bag is a great option as well for keeping the trash you pick up along the trail separate from the rest of your gear.
Flexibility
We’re really flexible and none of our itineraries are written in stone, so if you have a particular interest you’d like to include or you need to leave a trip earlier or join later (at a pro-rated fare), just let us know and we can almost always make it happen. Likewise, all adventure travel requires a certain amount of flexibility and we sometimes have to make minor changes to the activities because of weather and availability, but we have plenty of options up our sleeve.
Not Included
The trip fare doesn’t include coffee and any kind of drink except water. You’ll probably feel like tipping your guides at the end of a fabulous trip, though you won’t need to pull out your wallet every few minutes on your Albania Rafting Group adventure tour!
Meeting point – Tirana
We will drive from Tirana to Pellumbas village for about 45 minutes. After a coffee break we will get the equipment and get ready for the adventure. We will hike to black Cave for about 1 hour. We will enter the cave and observe the stalactites and stalagmites, and you might even be able to track a bat’s nest for abut 25 minutes. For those who prefere to stay outside, they can enjoy the amazing view and the peaceful nature. After the exploration we hike down and enjoy a delicious lunch with the local products of Pellumbas village.
